School Sunday at Holy Spirit

Over the last seven years I have had the unique experience of being a ministry leader for Holy Spirit Church and School as Director of Family Ministries for the Church and Chaplain for the School. I am an active staff member of both the school and the church. As the first School Chaplain at Holy Spirit Episcopal School, it was an intentional decision to hire me to have roles in both the Church and the School to help bring together our community.

School Sunday is one of our many community events that brings us all together.

Church members serve breakfast.

Students perform for parents, teachers, and church members.

Students help lead the service alongside church members and staff.

Everyone serves together by packing bags for Blessings in a Backpack.

During School Sunday, I see the families of students that I lead in Chapel twice a week worship next to our church families that I connect with at church events on a weekly basis. Seeing everyone share in this service together is so special. It showcases who we are as one community in Christ.

As Fr. Bob has mentioned in the last few weeks, our School is the largest outreach we have as a congregation and a very important part of the fiber of our Parish faith community. We celebrate our children in both our Church and our School remembering what Jesus said to the disciples when they asked him, “Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” and he responded by “...calling to him a child, he put him in the midst of them and said, ‘Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven’” (Matthew 18:1-3).

On School Sunday, we celebrate the gifts our whole community has to offer through school performances, service (Blessings in a Backpack), and worship. We look forward to you joining us!
