Birthday Cupcakes, Please!

There were two birthdays on our church staff this week which, in normal times, would have meant cupcakes and singing.  It has been a while since we have been able to share in these simple pleasures.  Even as we slowly try to get back to doing these things which I took for granted before, we still find ourselves in a place of caution out of a desire to keep others safe.  One day, those cupcakes are going to taste so wonderful!

Church life seems to have a similar trajectory.  We have been having in-person worship at 8:00 and 10:30 on Sunday mornings for many months now, but we are still being careful just to be safe.  I miss parts of the service like processing for the reading of the Gospel and shaking hands at the door after church.  As so many of you have told me you’re not quite comfortable being back inside for church, I miss seeing you every Sunday morning!

We are still a hopeful people and while we continue to proceed with caution, we are also planning for all the ways we can create space for you to encounter God and enjoy each other at Holy Spirit.  We will be bringing back field church on All Saints Sunday, the first Sunday of November (when it will hopefully cool down outside).  We will still have the blessing of the animals outside in October.  We are still offering coffee after church every Sunday in the courtyard.  We will continue to hope and anticipate bringing back so many of the simple pleasures like first Sunday breakfast, Parents Of Little Ones gatherings, 10 great dates, and more.  So please stay tuned for when finally get to do so.  If you’re anything like me and the cupcakes I used to enjoy on staff birthdays, it will be so very sweet when we get to share in these wonderful Holy Spirit traditions again.

We love you and God loves you,

Josh Condon+
