And Mary said,
“My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior…”
Luke 1:46-47, NRSV
Dear Friends,
I was honored when Father Mitch asked me to chair this year’s Stewardship campaign. Kim and I have been members of Holy Spirit for close to 30 years and we are grateful for the many blessings that the Holy Spirit community has provided to our family.
Our Stewardship campaign is a chance to reflect on the many ways that we are connected to each other. Our theme this year focuses on telling and sharing our own stories about how God has acted through Holy Spirit Church to inspire and build a loving community where we continue to learn about God’s work in the past, in the present, and the great expectation and hope of a future of everlasting life.
The passage noted above is the opening verse to Mary’s Magnificat, which in Latin means “My soul magnifies the Lord”. This is a speech or even a song offered by Mary to the great things that God has done for Mary and the great things God has done for the Israelites and which can help us all reflect on the many blessings God has provided to us all.
Our stories bring us together. Each of us has a story to tell, a reason why we found this congregation and continue to participate. Each of us has dreams, ambitions, and great ideas, just as each of us has struggles and moments of difficulty. One of the parts of our Good News is that we can bring our whole selves, all our story, to this place and to one another, and receive the support, encouragement, and praise that we need.
We will be hearing so many stories in our campaign this year. Each of them focuses on the inspiration we receive from God and how our souls are transformed by that inspiration.
With this letter, I am sending campaign materials for you to use in your discernment for how you can share the Good News of your transformative creativity and abundance with us and with our neighbors. Each hour spent volunteering, each good idea that you have, each dollar that you donate is transformed through prayer and Grace into ministry and mission. We could not be an example of love and compassion in our community without your many and various gifts. Giving is a very personal dialogue you have with God and there is no “right” or “wrong” amount to pledge. We truly appreciate your reflection and trust God will be with you during this period. Please return your pledge cards by November 16 so that we may include them in our “in gathering” and bless them.
Yours in Christ,
David C. Robinson

Why make a proportional gift?
Recently retired Bishop of Olympia, the Rt. Rev. Greg Rickel, stated that the tithe is only the beginning point. As Christians we give one hundred percent of what we have in gratitude for God who gave us everything there is. We’re all in.
When you make a proportional gift:
· You set aside your first fruits, dedicating a portion of your wealth, works, and wisdom to God. This is a sacred act.
· Your financial gift rises and falls with your income - it is right-sized to your household.
Giving back to God is a life-time journey; setting a percentage allows you to step up your giving over time.
