Why Don’t You Just Meet Me in the Middle?
I was amazed to discover how many Maren Morris songs I knew when my family went to the rodeo on Tuesday night. My daughter is a fan which is why, when we were offered tickets by a friend, we jumped at the opportunity to take her to the concert. I knew at least the chorus to at least half of the songs she sang…which is remarkable because in order to write this Spirit Shot article, I had to look up her name to make sure I had it right. Either way, I have not been able to get the catchy hook “Baby, why don’t you just meet me in the middle?” out of my head since.
The mere exposure we have to a multitude of interests simply by being in relationship with others is vastly understated. Most of you reading this will have had some exposure to the Holy Spirit community which means you probably don’t need much explanation when I mention Blessings in a Backpack. If you’ve been a part of our church community for much time at all you will get references to Christmas traditions like the poinsettia wreath, Lessons and Carols, and the nativity pageant. Though it has been a couple of years since we have had a normal Holy Week, you will likely have some sense of what Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter entail. But, as it has been some time, the specifics on things like the overnight vigil on Maundy Thursday or the Easter Egg Hunt on Sunday may need some clarification.
So, I invite you, as we progress ever deeper into this Lenten season, to make plans to participate in as much of Holy Week as you are able. These are the important moments of our communal life. Much like I was surprised by my Maren Morris musical awareness, I am guessing you will be able to step right back into our traditions meant observe those miraculous things Jesus has done to save our lives. If you are newer to Holy Spirit, don’t hesitate to ask questions. Every step of the Holy Week way is intentional and meant to prepare our hearts for the joy of Easter. May we share the experience of preparing ourselves for the best news that has ever been.
We love you and God loves you,
