Finding Balance

A sense of balance in my life… that is what I needed. Prior to joining Holy Spirit, I had been the caretaker for a lovely little woman. She was not family. She was my friend’s 93 year-old mother. My friend passed away and I took on the management of this sweet lady. We spent four years together, including every Sunday as our visiting time. While I enjoyed those years helping her, I realized after her passing I was missing balance in my life. I needed to get back to church.

During those four years, I bought a home closer to Holy Spirit and invited my mother to join me in Houston. I had known about the church for years, as I worked just a few blocks away. I was a member of the Cathedral downtown, but now I lived too far away to make that journey every week. And, as I said, I was looking for balance. Holy Spirit offered something I was missing. A church close to my work and home. And a church my mother would also enjoy.

On our very first Sunday at the Church, we were greeted with warmth and kindness. Mom and I immediately felt your welcoming spirit and charm. We “shopped” other churches just to be sure, but each visit led us back to you. I was looking for balance. Joining Holy Spirit brought me back to weekly church and so much more. I gained new friends. I found opportunities to volunteer, like serving on the Vestry and supporting the fellowship events. And…my life felt balanced again. I hope you find what you are seeking in our Church; I know I have.

Blessings to you all,

Bailey Curtis
