C is for Countdown
This past week, something I had been hearing about for quite some time finally began…The ABC Countdown. It didn’t mean anything to me either when my daughter asked every day for weeks how many days away the beginning of this momentous event was. Finally, as I was presented with a list of 26 letter-themed days, I realized what all the hubbub was about. Every day there is a theme that matches the letter of the alphabet culminating in the final day of school, “Z is for zip-off to a great summer!” There are certainly some anticipated favorites like “G is for games,” “I is for ice cream,” and “S is for silly socks.” Every day brings a new treat and one step closer to the end of school. What fun it is to be a kiddo sometimes!
Anticipation is certainly something we are all familiar with at this point in the pandemic. If we were to do a ABC countdown for this year, it may have included “I is for isolation” and “M is for missing people,” but it may also include “H is for hope,” “C is for caring for others with face coverings and vaccines,” and “R is for realizing how connected we all are and how much we depend on each other.”
There is an inevitability before us. That inevitability is that we will experience all the things we have missed and yearned for this year. For me, and many of you I have been told, a large part of that will be the blessed weekly routine of gathering for church to greet each other, sing with one voice, and kneel together at the altar rail. There is an inevitability of realizing that God has been with us every step of this year. We will rejoice together in the promises that lay ahead. We will rejoice in what God has in store. Let the countdown begin!
We love you and God loves you.
