New Life

Our newcomers class recently discussed the centrality of worship to the way our church experiences and explores the Good News of what God has done for us in Jesus Christ.  We literally live out our faith in a yearly journey we call the liturgical year.  Every step reveals and deepens our connection to the never-ending promise of grace and hope and as we approach Easter, we approach the most important and pivotal moment of this shared journey.

As is likely common in many areas of our lives, annual milestones invite an opportunity to reflect on recent years and how things played out during the pandemic.  I remember two years ago when we recorded Holy Week services inside the church for the first time since going virtual.  We also delivered an “Easter surprise” to every doorstep complete with an Easter lily bulb, candle, confetti and more.  Last year we gathered for a beautiful morning on our athletic field complete with brass and lilies.  This year we will finally be back in our beautiful church to proclaim the resurrection.  Bishop Fisher will visit and welcome a wonderful group of new members at the 11:00 service.  Copious numbers of Easter eggs will be found by children of all ages.  I cannot wait!

These heightened yearly moments also turn out thoughts to what our future will bring.  I think about all the new people who have found Holy Spirit in recent times and how they have begun to create new Holy Spirit Easter memories. This will include at least 10 little ones who will be baptized in the month after Easter.  So many of our long-time members will have the chance to welcome those whom God has brought to be a part of our Holy Spirit community.  New life is a major Easter theme and just as we will sing praises to the God who rose from the dead to save us all, we will also celebrate all the new life God has in store for this wonderful community as the church anticipates what is to come.

We love you and God loves you,

Josh Condon+
