The Lenten Season

Next Wednesday, Ash Wednesday, we will begin together here, and with the whole Church, the holy Season of Lent.  It is, as the Scriptures tell us and the Prayer Book reminds us, a special time of prayer, fasting (moderation) and the giving of alms (time and resources).  We are being called into reflection and renewal!  This year our theme for focus will be one of Forgiveness and Reconciliation.  Our Sunday Scriptures as well as our Sunday School sessions and other Lenten opportunities will help pry that open for us. I invite you to take Lent 2024 seriously and to engage where you feel called, with others of our parish family, in the time we have together during this holy season..

In church this Sunday you will be presented a schedule of many of the offerings and services to which you are invited. Some of them may seem odd or different, what is a Reconciliation Service or what is a Reflection Day or Stations of the Cross you might be thinking.  Is Fr. Bob making this stuff up?  (by this time you might have good reason to ask that last question!)  Give me a call or shoot an email my way and I will address your every question (or maybe reservation) regarding what we are about during Lent 2024 here at Holy Spirit. i would encourage you, individually or as a family to make some choices about how and when you might join in with us,  Put them on you calendar and engage, as we are invited into deeper union, as we are prepared by the Spirit to know and experience the Love of Jesus more deeply when we celebrate his Resurrection.

I have often thought that is the Lenten Season that really stands out as that time of the year which can define us as a real community (not a club) with a real desire to engage in the things that make us CHURCH.

Peace and all Good,
Fr. Bob
