Holy Helpers

Hello Friends,

Yes, you are hearing from me, Pat Groves, for the third week in a row!

Father Bob returns this week and asked if I would mind doing an article.

My big news is that there will be a “HOLY HELPERS” corner in the Spirit Shot beginning this week. There will be immediate and upcoming volunteer needs and opportunities for parishoners. Even giving a little of your time goes so far. Focus this week is for cookie bakers on May 6, 9-12 in the parish kitchen. That week is Teacher Appreciation and some of the schools supported by Blessings in a Backpack do not have PTOs to help with goodies to make the hardworking teachers feel special.

Suzy Spencer is coordinating a Mother’s Day Brunch on Saturday May 11 at 11 am. This is going to be a fun event. Everyone will receive an invitation and there will be more information in upcoming weeks in the Spirit Shot. There will be a list of dishes to bring to share. The really fun element of this event is that you are asked to bring your own place setting for the table. Everything from your wedding china to everyday dishes will make a beautiful table and create interesting conversations. Watch for more information!

In my past few weeks, I talked about all of the volunteer ministries. Some are task oriented and really important to keep the church running smoothly. I do not know if I really touched enough on the importance of social events though. My husband and I attended the Tweeners group at the Givens’ home a few weeks ago. We shared burgers, visited, and laughed a lot. It was a wonderful evening with church friends and getting to know one another better. There are groups for parents of little ones and middle school kids too. Getting together with fellow parishoners and creating friendships adds another facet to our relationships.

In closing, I want to add that there are volunteer opportunities that only happen on Sundays. Ushers and Lay Readers are two of those. There are young families at Holy Spirit that do not have the time to come up during the week or on a Saturday. However, if you are going to be in church on Sundays with your family, consider signing up for one of these. It could be as little as one Sunday per month, but your contribution keeps the church going. One of my favorite sayings is “Children learn what they live”. What a wonderful thing it would be for your children to see you serving in the church and one day following in your footsteps. Filling up the Blessings in a Backpack bin in the back of the church as you walk in would be a wonderful and very needed way to volunteer. April is pre packaged GOLDFISH. Let’s fill the bin until it is overflowing this week!!
